Thankful to have 10 AM Mass celebrated at St. Mary's this morning. The Mass was surprisingly well attended considering that last night was the biggest party night of the year.
Father McCarthy delivered an especially good homily emphasizing the humanity of both Mary and Jesus by taking us all through the tribulations of their lives as people like us and urging us to follow their example. As he described each milestone in their lives I was glad that my N95 was there to absorb any overflow from my eyes. The woman in front of me, whose name I later learned was Mary, was overtly dabbing at her eyes. During the prayer of the faithful the sun must have emerged from behind a cloud and shone brightly through the stained glass window to our left. Mary and I later turned to look a first, and then a second time. She turned to look at me and we nodded to each other in affirmation. A rare and special moment between strangers.
Every time I come here I learn. There are a lot of people to learn from.
