The McDuffie Progress in Thomson, Georgia posted a brief video about the closing of Transfiguration in Tarrytown, NY. It plucked, highlighted in yellow and displayed the phrase "severely low enrollment" from the letter sent to parents.
- Why did an outlet so far away put effort into this?
- Why offer only the direst assessment from one side of the story?
- If the Archdiocese of New York is so sad about this, why didn't they do more to prevent it?
Whenever the archdiocese closes something, the word "sad" appears in the announcement, there also a distancing, as if the archdiocese had nothing to do with the demise of one of their parishes or schools. There is never remorse about the failure of their stewardship. Maybe the churches and schools would be less empty if there was more empathy.
