This is such an extraordinary painting. It just stops me right away. What contrasts - light and dark, pure innocent life, and impending slaughter! The lamb is helpless and we feel the same way gazing at it.
But one thing seems incongruous to me - that has to be the most unusual halo that's ever been painted! I always ask myself - what is it made of? glass? looks sort of like a little flying saucer!

This painting was on the cover of the most recent issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association. I immediately loved it, halo and all.
