52 Main Street in Hastings on Hudson was the home of the Roman Catholic parish of St. Stanislaus Kostka from 1913 to 2007. It was sold to the Saul Silbert Foundation, was painted purple and became the Purple Crayon Center for Learning and Social Innovation. This, in turn, morphed into Purpl: a co-working and human potential center. After the purple faded it languished on the market and was withdrawn. Having become cynical after observing the real estate ventures of the Archdiocese of New York, I was concerned that the equally old building next door was going on the market, creating a perfect location for new condos.
