The church leadership in the USA speaks to the American laity in a tone of belle indifference, as if they played no role in the development of the current predicament.
Spokesmen seldom seem anguished by the consequences of their "tough decisions." Written statements proclaim their sadness, but we see no tears. If the modus operandi of most parish and school closings is "suck it up and go to the next one" can they expect numbers to increase?
