“There is no illegal demolition,” said Joseph Zwilling, spokesman for the Archdiocese of New York. “There is no ‘gut renovation.’ There is the removal of items of liturgical, historical, and monetary value for storage for future use.”
-Joseph Zwilling
Please note that the stained glass windows were apparently removed by destroying the surrounding structure. Then there is the customary reference to the preservation of the parish's patrimony. No mention that there are 2 canonical appeals and a civil suit pending to prevent the archdiocese from appropriating parish property. Are they confident that the Vatican and the Supreme Court of New York will rule in their favor? From whence comes this confidence?
